Work in Progress

My current project is ongoing. For 35 years, I have been driving back to my hometown in Oregon every summer. Global warming has changed my path and timing. This series is based on my experiences. The picture below was taken over central California at the end of June in 2014. The first time I drove to Oregon was in 1985, and at that time, there was no talk of a “fire season.” In 2021, Oregon had 1000 fires that burned over 518,000 acres. The last three years in a row, I have had to wait to drive home or drive through fires on my way home. The lakes and rivers are at all-time lows, and the trees in Northern California are dying or dead. The situation is slow-moving and dire, and it has changed my relationship with my hometown.

2020

From California to Washington, out-of-control wildfires are devouring landscapes.
